Trouble logging into Forum Online? Did you...

Checked the above and still can't log on? Write to us at forum@nthp.org or call us at 202-588-6296 and we'll get you connected.

You might also want to check that your browser is configured correctly for Forum Online, which is a dynamically generated site that uses JavaScript and a temporary cookie to store your password.

If you use Internet Explorer (version 6.x for Windows):

  1. Select "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu. A pop-up box will appear.
  2. Make sure that you are in the "General" Tab.
  3. In the "Temporary Internet Files" area, click the "Settings" button.
  4. Where it says "Check for new versions of stored pages:" select "Automatically."
  5. Click "Okay."
  6. Select the "Privacy" Tab.
  7. Make sure that "Accept" or "Prompt" selected for "First-Party Cookies." Forum Online uses a temporary cookie to store your password.
  8. Click "Okay."
  9. Select the "Security" Tab.
  10. Highlight the "Internet" icon and click the "Custom Level" button.
  11. Make sure that Java is not disabled by selecting either "Enable" or "Prompt".
  12. Click "Okay" until the pop-up box disappears.

If you use Internet Explorer (version 5.x for Windows):

  1. Select "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu. A pop-up box will appear.
  2. Make sure that you are in the "General" Tab.
  3. In the "Temporary Internet Files" area, click the "Settings" button.
  4. Where it says "Check for new versions of stored pages:" select "Automatically".
  5. Select the "Security" Tab.
  6. Highlight the "Internet" icon and click the "Custom Settings" button.
  7. Make sure that Cookies and Java are not disabled by selecting either "Enable" or "Prompt". Forum Online uses a temporary cookie to store your password.
  8. Click "Okay" until the pop-up box disappears.

If you use Netscape (version 4.x for Windows):

  1. Select "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu. A pop-up box will appear.
  2. Select "Advanced" from the options on the left side.
  3. In the area on the right side, make sure that Java and JavaScript are enabled/checked.
  4. Also, make sure that "Disable Cookies" is not checked. Forum Online uses a temporary cookie to store your password.
  5. Select "Cache" from the "Advanced" submenu (You might have to expand this menu by clicking the + before Advanced).
  6. In the area that says "Document in cache is compared to document on the network...", select "Everytime".
  7. Click "Okay."

If you use America Online (version 5.x for Windows):
AOL users, please note you must have AOL 4.0 or higher to access Forum Online.

  1. Select "Preferences" from the "My AOL" menu. A pop-up box will appear.
  2. Click the "WWW" button, which will be fourth from the left on the top row. Another pop-up box will appear.
  3. Follow the directions for Internet Explorer (above), starting with #2.
If you use American Online (version 4.x for Macintosh):
AOL users, please note you must have AOL 4.0 or higher to access Forum Online.
  1. Select "Preferences" from the "My AOL" menu. A pop-up box will appear.
  2. Click the "WWW" button, which will be second from the top in the left sidebar. Another pop-up box entitled "Web Preferences" will appear.
  3. In the "Cache" area, select "No Cache" next the where it says "Maximum Size."
  4. Click the "Advanced Settings" button.
  5. In the left sidebar, click the triangle before "Web Browser" so that several options are displayed.
  6. Highlight "Java."
  7. In the "Java Options" area, make sure there is an "X" in the box before "Enable Java".
  8. Still in the "Web Preferences" window, click the triangle before "Receiving Files" so that the options are displayed.
  9. Highlight "Cookies".
  10. In the "Cookies Settings" area, where it says "When receiving cookies", select any option except "Never Accept." Forum Online uses a temporary cookie to store your password.
  11. Click "Okay".
